Introducing Lock Box: shared insight, without shared data
Some of the most valuable insight an organisation could have does not live in its own data. It lives in the overlap between its data and someone else's. Getting to it has always been the hard part, because handing raw personal information to another party is a privacy, trust and compliance minefield. Today we are launching Lock Box to solve exactly that.
The insight is in the overlap
Two or more organisations often hold complementary records about the same people. Combined, that data can answer questions none of them can answer alone. Kept apart, the insight stays locked away, because no one can safely give their customers' personal information to a third party.
A data clean room, built for trust
Lock Box is a secure data clean room. Each party signs in with a one time password, uploads their file, and maps their columns and person attributes. The data is then matched and washed together inside the clean room, on shared identifiers, so the overlap and the patterns become visible. No party ever sees another party's raw records. Only the agreed, aggregated result leaves the room.
- Match without exposure. Records are matched on shared keys inside the clean room, and raw PII never changes hands.
- Washed together. Multiple parties' data is cleaned and combined, so overlaps, duplicates and patterns surface across the whole group.
- Only insight out. Outputs are aggregated and de-identified, never the underlying records.
- Secure by design. One time password sign in, encryption in transit and at rest, Australian data residency and a full audit trail.
Case studyFour sports, one participation picture
A government sporting body wanted to understand participation and churn across grassroots sport, but the data sat in four separate codes, tennis, golf, netball and basketball, each holding only its own members. No single code could see the whole picture, and none could share its participants' personal details with the others.
Using Lock Box, the four datasets were brought into the clean room and washed together, matched on common identifiers without any code exposing its members. For the first time, the body could model participation and churn across all four sports at once, revealing:
- how many people play more than one sport, and which codes share participants
- where participants switch between sports, and the seasonal patterns behind it
- the common drop-off points, so retention effort can be focused where it matters most
These are insights no single sporting code could have produced alone, achieved without any organisation handing over a single raw record.
